The Monopoly Instructions...you get them with every board game, and you also get the famous Monopoly money, cards, and playing pieces. Just what you need for a fun night of family board games. It's great to read the Monopoly game rules and learn the correct way to play this game of real estate and money.
Monopoly is a game where two to four people compete to have complete financial control of the world, or at the very least, the board.
At the beginning of each game, a player is given $1500 in cash and starts on the "GO" square. They then roll to see who goes first. The player in control then rolls the dice and moves as many spaces as the dice is rolled. If a double is rolled, the player may roll again, but if doubles are rolled 3 times in a row, that person will go to jail.
Unless the player lands in one of the corners, he or she will land on either a property square, a railroad square, a tax square, a utility square, Community Chest or Chance.
If a player lands on Community Chest or Chance, they draw a card from whatever pile corresponds with it, and they are identified by color (yellow for Community Chest, orange for Chance).
If the player lands on a railroad, a utility, or a property square, he or she may buy it for the price indicated if it is not previously owned. They are then given the title to that property and anyone who lands on it must pay "rent" to the person who owns it. This can be very expensive if the player owns all of the railroads, utilities or all of the property cards of a certain color (known as a "Monopoly"). A tax square is simply that, you pay a tax.
The four corner squares are GO, Go to Jail, Jail and Free Parking. As you pass GO, you collect $200, Go to jail takes you directly to the jail square and you must roll doubles or pay a $50 fine to get out. Free Parking officially doesn't do anything but some people put tax money in free parking and award it as a bonus. If a tax or rent cannot be paid, the person may mortgage their property, or end up declaring bankruptcy.
According to the Monopoly Instructions the game continues until either one player is left standing having bankrupted everyone else or a pre-determined goal is met. At which time, the person with the most total equity (properties, houses, and cash) is the winner.
