The game is based on the ancient medieval French town. A unique feature of this town is that the city is fortified by walls all around it. The game begines with a single terrain and 72 tiles. The tiles are all shuffled face down. With each turn a player draws a terrain and places it next to the other terrain they have faced down, making sure that it matches up with their other pieces. Roads must connect to roads and so goes for fields and fences and so on. Before the player ends their turn they must have a follower on the terrain. This allows for the follower to gain ownership over a road, field or city. The scoring for the game goes on with for cities a player gets two points for the cities. For each completed city, each player will get three points at the end of the game. During the game fields are not scored until the end of the game when all tiles are added up together. Roads and cloisters are all one point throughout the game and the end of the game. The player with the most tiles and most points wins the game. During the end of the game any unfinished sectors of the board are scored by one point to each unfinished sector.
Second Description of Carcassonne The Game
Tiles are used to build the cities, cloisters, fields and roads as people use strategy and recieve points to beat fellow players and win the game.
There are 72 tiles for players to use in building the point winning cities, farms, clositers and fields. You also get some meeples...that's right, that is what these people shaped playing pieces are called. Each player gets 8 meeple abd there are several ways to use these pieces while playing the game. You can use a meeple for different roles in the game. The meeples can be used as knights, monks, farmers or thieves.
How do you play?
It's a very simple game...choose a tile and lay it on the game board, matching it up to other pieces on the boards surface. Match like to like...road to road...city to city...and so on. You can decide to place a meeple piece on one of your tiles and from there you must complete that road or city with more of your tiels. And hopefully, you won't allow the other players to score.
