Bananagrams game is a word game played with letter tiles, similar to Scrabble, but with very different rules. It has only been on the market since 2006 and has risen to be one of the top travel games on the market.
Bananagrams has a total of 144 lettered tiles that are used to create words. At the beginning of the game all the tiles are turned upside down so that the players can not see the letters. The same numbers of tiles are selected by each player to begin the game. When any player yells “split” the players must turn over their tiles and begin to form words. When a player runs out of tiles they must say “peel” and each player must select another tile from the remaining turned over tiles.
Words can be formed by rearranging words that are already on the board only if the letter you remove can be placed on another word to form a new word. As an example if you had the word “foot” on the board and you had the letter “d”, you could remove the “t” from foot, replace with the “d” to create the word “food”, but you will have to place the “t” somewhere else to create another word. The object of the game is to use all the tiles.
Read some reviews of this quick paced spelling game and find out how much just about everyone who plays it, likes it. It is similar to Scrabble (which is one of my favorite games) but there are no double and triple letter or word scores, you don't need to check a dictionary and there's no waiting for 10 minutes for someone to put their word down. So it's Scrabble without all the headaches you can get while your playing it. It's also fun to be able to rearrange the letters!
